Web3 Hub Davos 2025 Wednesday Recap: Investor Networking, The Potential of the UAE, Crypto Megatrends, and Gemstones on the Blockchain
On day three, the Web3 Hub Davos 2025 hosted a variety of engaging sessions, from a dedicated investor roundtable to unlocking the potential of gemstones on the blockchain! In case you couldn’t join us on Wednesday, here are our key takeaways from another insightful day.
Investor Networking with VNTR & CV VC
To start the day, CV VC and VNTR hosted an exclusive networking event for some of the leading VCs and investors present in Davos during the week. In an intimate setting, attendees were first introduced to the VNTR team and their goal of creating a strong community of investors worldwide. After short presentations from CV VC and ThorWallet, attendees had ample opportunity to network with other guests and connect with the wider investment community.
CV VC’s David Long took the stage to highlight why Web3 represents the biggest value-creation opportunity to date and how CV VC is helping investors capture that value. Throughout the session, guests were able to connect with various CV VC team members to learn more about investment opportunities and how CV VC is pushing the boundaries of blockchain technology with its diverse portfolio. Key Takeaways from DMCC: The Potential of the UAE, the Impact of Donald Trump, and Regulations as a Driving Force for Innovation
Our afternoon session, hosted by DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre), was a roaring success! The session provided a deep dive into the development of the UAE's ecosystem and how innovation is being driven by various industry players. Special guest Anthony Scaramucci captivated the audience with an in-depth discussion of Trump’s potential impact. Here are our key takeaways:
The UAE & DMCC as Hubs for Innovation
Kicking off the session, DMCC's Chief Operating Officer, Feryal Ahmadi, delivered the welcoming address, highlighting the transformative impact of Web3 and AI on global trade. She emphasized DMCC's role as a leading hub for blockchain, crypto, and AI innovation. Discussing how the UAE ecosystem fosters growth, Feryal stated:
"Dubai has embraced these opportunities with vision and resolve, creating ecosystems that pioneer industry advancements with tangible results."
Following Feryal's address, Belal Jassoma, Director of Ecosystems at DMCC, expanded on the dynamic work DMCC is doing to foster growth in Dubai. With DMCC's Crypto Center supporting over 600+ Web3 companies and offering licensing, co-working spaces, and funding support, Belal highlighted Dubai's position as a rising crypto hub. He credited this to favorable regulations, economic competitiveness, and innovative blockchain adoption across various sectors.
Anthony Scaramucci and the Future of the American Web3 Industry
During the session, Anthony Scaramucci and Belal Jassoma provided a standout experience for our guests, discussing how Trump could impact the global Web3 & AI industry. In a 20-minute fireside chat, the audience listened attentively as Scaramucci shared insights on the US ecosystem, taking questions from eager attendees at the end.
Anthony Scaramucci noted that the mood at Davos 2024 was more subdued than in previous years, with discussions centered around the rapid progress of AI and its geopolitical implications. He emphasized the influence of figures like Elon Musk on U.S. AI policy and their broader economic impact.
Reflecting on crypto’s evolving role, Scaramucci analyzed the Trump administration’s mixed influence on crypto, citing both potential regulatory clarity and challenges, such as Trump’s meme coins. Scaramucci argued:
"When you get Donald Trump, you get the whole thing of Donald Trump. You’re not at the buffet line picking good crypto policy and light regulation without the chaos."
He underscored the importance of consistent regulations, contrasting the U.S. approach with countries like the UAE, which take a depoliticized and business-friendly stance.
Furthermore, Scaramucci drew historical parallels, illustrating how countries that embrace emerging technologies tend to thrive. He stressed the importance of forward-thinking leadership and predicted the inevitability of nation-states adopting Bitcoin as a strategic reserve.
Regulations as a Driving Force for Innovation
Wrapping up the on-stage content, Oscar Wendel, Dr. Lisa Cameron, Pablos Holman, Kristina Lucrezia Cornèr, and Alessia Baumgartner discussed regulations as a central topic of discussion.
Dr. Lisa Cameron outlined plans to demonstrate how Britain and other countries can learn from Dubai's VARA framework, stating "There is still a lot of misinformation in Parliament that London is miles ahead. I want to show them the progress made elsewhere."
Fellow panelists echoed this sentiment, with Kristina asserting, "A good regulation is when everyone is at the table participating". Pablos took it a step further, claiming, "Governments are not going to regulate companies; it’s the other way around". He emphasized that innovation will drive regulatory bodies to develop a strong foundation for growth.
Game-Changing Innovations: AI Agents, DePIN & the Global Web3 Landscape
During the second afternoon session, the tech side of Web3 took center stage, focusing on AI agents, DePIN, and how blockchain innovations are shaping the global Web3 landscape.
The Complexity of AI Agent Regulations
AI agents have been a recurring topic at Web3 Hub Davos 2025. Today’s panelists highlighted how AI agents extend beyond traditional AI models, interacting with the real world to create self-sustaining systems.
Logan Ryan Golema (Eliza Labs & ai16z) remarked: "We’re moving towards a world where AI agents outlive their creators, becoming self-sovereign entities capable of managing their own resources." Panelists also explored the idea of granting AI agents legal personhood, raising intriguing questions: Could AI agents hold assets, sign contracts, or even vote? Before long, clear regulations will need to be put in place to deal with these questions, which will undoubtedly arise in the near future.
DePIN & the Global Web3 Landscape
Our next panel discussed how DePINs solve real-world problems like data storage, compute power, GPS accuracy, and networking. Daniel Ammann commented: "With decentralized networks, you don’t just compete; you solve problems centralized systems can’t, from lowering CAPEX to expanding coverage in underserved areas."
In the final panel, Bill Laboon and Jan Camenisch discussed blockchain’s evolution. Jan stated, "AI is revolutionizing blockchain development. Soon, you won’t need to learn Solidity or traditional languages to build and deploy your own smart contracts."
EmGemX: How Gemstones are Being Tokenized on the Blockchain
As the day drew to a close, EmGemX hosted the final session, exploring how gemstones can become tokenized assets on the blockchain. Speakers from across the gemstone industry highlighted the history of gemstones, their role as an asset, and how blockchain is democratizing accessibility.
Paul Pöltner, CEO of GEMx AG, explained how GEMx AG is leveraging blockchain technology to tokenize gemstones, stating "We are doing this to be a small element in the blockchain ecosystem, using it as a store of value and enabling new business models."
After the engaging discussions, guests had the opportunity to examine various gemstones and network with industry leaders.
